George Michael battling cocaine addiction?

'Huawei': A foreshadowing name?

Chinesepod's Carlie discusses the meaning of the name 'Huawei' in light of the recent national security concerns of the Whitehouse

A member of George Michael’s family claims that the singer is battling an addiction to crack cocaine. However, he told his fans on Twitter that this is not true. The U.K. tabloid The Sun claims it spoke with Jackie Georgiou, who is married to one of Michael’s cousins. She claims that that the family was worried that the “Faith” singer was abusing cocaine, alcohol and marijuana before he went to rehab last summer. Georgiou says that Michael went to Kusnacht Practice in Switzerland for treatment. “He was smoking crack. Before he went away he got to the point where he would be shaking, saying ‘I need it,’” Georgiou told the Sun. “There were parties where he was taking drugs and collapsing and being picked up off the floor. Waking up in vomit, horrible things. He was so thin, so ill. It’s crack, it’s marijuana, it’s drink, it’s coke. It was pretty dark and things were getting darker. He was going to end up locked up or dead. I’m petrified he will die.” Despite this story, Michael said that the rumor isn’t true and that he hasn’t spoken to Georgiou in nearly two decades.

Still, the rumor does come in the wake of an illness in 2011 that forced him to cancel an Australian tour. He was also hospitalized in 2013 following a car crash. In March 2014, Michael said that he is now sober after the car crash. “I realized it had to be something to do with me. It shook me out of my denial," he told the BBC at the time. "After that crash happened, I started drug counseling and was two weeks in detox, none of which I made public. It feels so completely behind me now. It really does."
