Newly unsealed court documents about the nude photo-hacking scandal that so many celebrities became victims of last year revealed more information about a home investigators searched in Chicago.
The Associated Press noted that the FBI seized a computer and other electronics linked to almost 600 hacked personal data-storage accounts from a home in the Windy City in October.
Gawker reported that the owner of the home searched is a man named Emilio Herrera. A sworn affidavit from Special Agent Josh Sedowsky of the FBI’s Cybercrimes Unit said that a person in the house did in fact hack iCloud accounts. However, no criminal charges were ever filed against Herrera or any other occupants of the home.
“Based on victim account records obtained from Apple,” Sedowsky wrote, “one or more computers used at [Herrera’s house] access or attempted to access without authorization multiple celebrities’ e-mail and iCloud accounts over the course of several months.”
The hacking scandal rocked Hollywood last summer when countless nude pictures of several celebrities were leaked online. The victims included Jennifer Lawrence, Hope Solo and Olivia Wilde to name a few.
The investigation remains ongoing.
