Kevin McHale is shooting down rumors of a possible Glee spin-off, saying the whole reason they ended their six-season run was because of a stark drop in viewership.
McHale appeared on The HuffPost Show and said Glee never really recovered after the death of Cory Monteith in 2013.
“It wasn't for a lack of trying, but the story was going in one direction with this character and he was one of two main characters on the show,” McHale said. “So I think after that, just the vibe on set was different."
He went on to explain it was “just weird” for the cast and crew to be on set after Monteith’s death, “never mind actually filming it.” He added that they lost their desire to “really want to be” there after that and it showed.
ABC News reports he also said of a spin-off, "Towards the end, there weren't that many people watching Glee, so I don't know how many people would then watch a spinoff. We’re off the air for a reason."
