Dustin Diamond represents himself in Wisconsin court, testifies about Christmas Day bar fight

Dustin Diamond, best known for his role as Screech on Saved By the Bell, acted as his own defense on Friday while in court for the Christmas Day brawl that ended with the actor stabbing a man in a bar.

He was arrested for stabbing a man with a switchblade, which he claims was in defense of his girlfriend, Amanda Schutz. He entered a not guilty plea in January.

Daily News reports he appeared in the Wisconsin court room and said he took out the knife to protect Schutz.

"I looked in my hand and saw I had a pocket knife," he explained. "I said, 'Let go of my wife,' and pointed in her direction with the knife. At the moment I feared for her safety and her life. It was a lot of blood."

He also said he did not mean to stab the man, only pulling the knife out as a “deterrent,” but the man "injured himself" when rushing towards Diamond.

"I didn’t swing or motion the knife towards him at all," he testified.

He described Schutz as being “pummeled” and “thrown about,” adding, "I wanted injuries to Amanda to stop. That was my only concern.”

Fox News reports on Thursday, a woman named Bethany Ward testified that she punched Schutz in the face that night before the stabbing took place.
