Colorado BBQ joint facing backlash for holding a 'White Appreciation Day,' discounts to white customers only

A BBQ restaurant in Colorado called Rubbin’ Buttz BBQ is holding a White Appreciation Day on June 11, which has garnered a ton of backlash nationwide.

The Hispanic owner of the restaurant, Edgar Antillon, is standing by his decision and telling local news station KUSA they will offer a 10 percent discount to white customers on that day only.

“We have a whole month for Black History Month. We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans,” Antillon explained.

Jennifer McPherson, from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, said they could face civil lawsuits for doing this. However, Antillon isn’t backing down.

Antillon took to the restaurant’s Facebook page to say they did get “overwhelming support” for it and encourages those people to ignore those who are “filled with hate and/or misunderstanding.”

Those who are against it argue if Rubbin’ Buttz is going to offer a discount to one race, they should include every race and are therefore being discriminatory.
