Tuesday, April 21 marks the 89th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, who was very close to sharing a birthday with her second great grandson.
The Queen of England spent the day privately at Windsor Castle, but there were a few public celebrations in her honor.
Both the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery and the Honourable Artillery Company fired royal salutes in honor of her birthday, International Business Times reports. In addition, royal salutes took place at Hillsborough Castle, Edinburgh Castle and Cardiff Castle.
The wife of Queen Elizabeth’s eldest grandson (Duke of Cambridge), the Duchess of Cambridge, is due to give birth to their second child any day now. She revealed during one of her last royal engagements before giving birth that her due date was mid to late April.
In September, Queen Elizabeth will be the longest reigning monarch after matching Queen Victoria's 63-year reign.
