Milwaukee man suspected of fatally shooting two people kills self, police say

Authorities said a Milwaukee man, who fatally shot two people after his nephew was hit by a car, has killed himself.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported that police confirmed that Ricky Ricardo Chiles III, 27, shot himself inside a hotel room as officers closed in on him Thursday morning.

Law enforcement officials said that on Sunday evening, while at a family gathering, Chiles’ 2-year-old nephew Damani Terry ran into the street and was struck by 40-year-old Archie Brown Jr.’s van. Terry was killed.

Milwaukee police said that although Brown got out of his car to help and was extremely distraught and grieving as he stood over the child’s body, Chiles shot him in the head. Also injured in the gunfire was the toddler’s older brother and the gunmen’s other nephew 15-year-old Rasheed Chiles.

Officers later received a tip that Chiles fled the area and was headed to Chicago when they tracked him to the hotel room. His girlfriend was inside the room with him but was not injured.

WISNreported that court records show that Chiles had a lengthy criminal history and was diagnosed with bipolar and schizo-affective disorder.
