Police arrest suspected gunman in Mesa, Arizona shootings

Police in Mesa, Arizona said that they have arrested a man in connection with Wednesday morning’s shooting rampage that killed one person and injured five others.

FoxNews.com noted that authorities have identified the suspect that was taken into custody as Ryan Giroux, 41. Police said he is an ex-convict with a record dating back to the ‘90s. And, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections, served more than eight years in prison for burglary, theft, attempted aggravated assault and a drug violation.

As previously reported, the shootings began just after 9 a.m. local time at a motel room. In that instance two people were wounded and one was fatally shot. The suspect then fled to a nearby tech campus where he allegedly carjacked and shot a student and then headed to another location where two other people were shot.

By Wednesday afternoon, police officers located Giroux on a balcony at an apartment complex. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey tweeted that he was thankful to law enforcement for their efforts in apprehending the suspect.
