Metro-North train service in suburban New York resumed operations on Thursday following a deadly crash that killed six people one day earlier.
NBC News noted that while some delays can be expected commuter trains are running. Meanwhile, Robert Sumwalt of the National Transportation Safety Board said the crash is still being investigated.
As previously reported, the collision between the commuter train and a Sports Utility Vehicle occurred Tuesday evening around rush hour. When the train struck the SUV, it killed Ellen Brody, 49, who was behind the wheel as well as five riders on board the train.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday that several other passengers on the train sustained injures.
Investigators are trying to determine why Brody was crossing the tracks in the first place. Another motorist said that her SUV was attempting to cross and got stuck when the crossing gate came down on it.
Of the injured, eight people are still being treated at area hospitals.
