Authorities said a teen mother was killed in a car accident on Tuesday, but miraculously twin babies inside her womb have survived.

The Associated Press reported that doctors could not save the 19-year-old that the Spartanburg County coroner's office identified as Aston Hughes, but were able to save the twin babies in her womb.
Few details about the crash have been released, however, law enforcement officials said that Hughes’ van hit the back of an SUV. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. She also had an 11-month-old in her vehicle, but that child was not injured.
The surviving twins are currently being treated at a local hospital.
WCNC noted that a similar incident happened just hours apart in neighboring North Carolina. The mother in that crash lost control of her car and was struck by another vehicle. Highway patrol officers and a nurse, who happened to be at the scene, administered CPR.
The woman was taken to a hospital and her unborn child was delivered by C-section. Sadly, the mother did not make it and the baby boy died after he was taken off life support.
