Famous astrophysicist and serial Twitter agitator Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be bringing his personality to late night. He will host the National Geographic Channel’s first ever late night talk show series, titled Star Talk.
The series will premiere in April 2015, the network announced yesterday. It is based on Tyson’s popular podcast and will be taped at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium, making it probably the first talk show taped in a museum.
The Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey host and his guests will cover a variety of science topics, from the cosmos, space travel to extraterrestrial life.
“Cosmos allowed us to share the awesome power of the universe with a global audience in ways that we never thought possible,” Tyson said in a statement. “To be able to continue to spread wonder and excitement through Star Talk, which is a true passion project for me, is beyond exciting. And National Geographic Channel is the perfect home as we continue to explore the universe.”
Tyson has brought science to the masses through his frequent TV appearances and his huge following on social media. He’s also frequently in the news whenever he shares controversial thoughts on Twitter, whether it is debating the realities of Gravity or being a Grinch on Christmas. His Christmas Day tweets made it clear that he wasn’t celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ that day, but Isaac Newton’s birthday instead.
He also hosted Fox's new edition of Cosmos, which was produced by Seth MacFarlane.
