The hospital where healthcare worker Pauline Cafferkey is being treated for Ebola announced that she is no longer critically ill.
BBC News noted that the Royal Free Hospital in London said in statement that the Scottish nurse’s health is improving.
"The Royal Free Hospital is pleased to announce that Pauline Cafferkey is showing signs of improvement and is no longer critically ill,” the statement said. “She remains in isolation as she receives specialist care for the Ebola virus.”
As previously reported, she was diagnosed with the disease in Glasgow, Scotland, last month after returning from a trip to Kerry Town, Sierra Leone, an Ebola hotspot.
Cafferkey was then transferred to the London facility from Brownlee Unit for Infectious Diseases at Gartnavel.
More than 21,000 cases of the deadly virus have been confirmed and nearly 9,000 people, mostly in the West African countires of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, have died.
Cafferkey was the first case in the United Kingdom. Other cases have been reported in the U.S., Spain, Senegal, Mali and Nigeria.
