While Chrissy Teigen struggled with her “cry face,” Frances McDormand was having her own troubles with reacting to everything. Sure, losing isn’t fun, but McDormand appeared to keep an angry face going every time the camera showed her.
Of course, McDormand’s stone face sparked plenty of funny tweets, with some comparing her to Grumpy Cat. Others noted that she reacted to things as well as Tommy Lee Jones.
It was going to be a very strange night for McDormand any way. She was nominated for Best Actress in a TV movie/mini-series for Olive Kitteridge and was up against Fargo’s Alison Tolman, who played a character inspired by McDormand’s Oscar-winning role in the Fargo movie. Both lost to Maggie Gyllenhaal, who won for The Honourable Woman.
The obsession with McDormand’s reactions started when Amy Adams picked up her award for Big Eyes. Just as Adams was speaking about how other actresses were role models for her daughter, the camera cut to McDormand, who already didn’t look too happy, as Us Weekly points out.

Here’s the full winners list from last night. Like McDormand, Teigen’s emotions were fodder for Internet memes.
