Fox News' U.K. gaffe about Birmingham sparks #FoxNewsFacts on Twitter

Fox News has drawn the ire of the U.K. today after an analyst who claims to be a terrorism expert said that Birmingham is a “totally Muslim city.” That has sparked an international Twitter trend called “#FoxNewsFacts.”

Steve Emerson, who Fox News called an “internationally recognized expert on terrorism” claimed that the U.K.’s second-largest city is mostly Muslim. According to The Guardian, Emerson even claimed that the city is a “no-go zone” for non-Muslims.

He added that there are parts of London where Muslim religious police “actually beat and actually wound seriously anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire.”

According to CNN, Emerson did later apologize for his statement. “My comments on Fox News about Birmingham were totally inaccurate. Birmingham, please accept my apology; I was wrong,” he said.

A Fox News press team Twitter account did surface to try to stop the now-wildly popular #FoxNewsFacts Twitter trend. However, CNN’s Brian Stelter is reporting that this account is face. The account claimed it was launched specifically to fight the #FoxNewsFacts hashtag.

Here’s some Tweets from the trend:
