Anne Hathway tells Neil Patrick Harris to do the 'opposite' of what she did while hosting Oscars

Anne Hathaway has some advice for Neil Patrick Harris, who will be hosting the Academy Awards next month, don’t do what she did with James Franco.

Hathaway and Franco famously bombed their hosting duties in 2011, with speculation Franco had been high during the show.

When asked if she had any advice for Harris, she told the New York Times, “Do the opposite of what I did, and you’ll be fine.”

She was then asked where she went wrong and she replied, “I think it’s so obvious that it doesn’t even need to be identified.”

However, she has faith in Harris, who has hosted many events before. “He’ll be great. He’s a natural host,” she said.

At the time of the announcement that Harris would be this year’s host, he called it an honor in a statement.

"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards," he said. "I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."

The 87th Annual Academy Awards will air on Feb. 22.
