Scientists discovered a new species of fish lurking five miles below the surface of the Pacific Ocean.

WPTV noted that the white translucent fish was spotted during a research expedition to the Marina Trench, which began last month and was led by marine scientists at the University of Hawaii.
Footage of the odd-looking, deep-sea creature was captured on video as it floated past the camera at a depth of 26,716 feet.
The Los Angeles Times reported that researchers have said it is the deepest living fish ever discovered.
"We were just blown away when we saw it," said Paul Yancey, a biology professor at Whitman College, Washington who studies how animals adapt to life in the deep sea. "Someone on the ship said it looks like a cross between a puppy, an angel and an eel."
Yancey said that the slow-moving creature is about 10 inches long and almost completely translucent.
The newly discovered fish has not yet been named.
