'Saved by the Bell' star Dustin Diamond says stabbing was an accident, posts bail

Dustin Diamond, who is best known for playing Screech on Saved by the Bell, got himself back in the news this week after allegedly stabbing a man at a Wisconsin bar. He had his first court appearance on Monday and is now out on bail.

The incident happened late Christmas Day and Diamond was arrested early Friday morning. He allegedly stabbed a man when a fight broke out to defend his girlfriend.

According to the The Associated Press, the criminal complaint shows that Diamond said the stabbing was an accident. The victim was not seriously hurt and police did find the switchblade in Diamond’s vehicle.

He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering safety.

Diamond, 37, spent the weekend in jail and posted $10,000 bail before a hearing at the Ozaukee County Circuit Court.

"Dustin has complete faith in the justice system,” his attorney, Thomas Alberti, said after the hearing. However, Diamond was “not happy he missed the Packers game,” but “made the best of his time here. He got caught up on some books.”

Diamond’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 5.
