While it hasn’t been on the air quite as long as The Simpsons, Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters has been on for a long time. So it only makes sense that Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will look to that other long-running show for new myths to bust.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday, which happened to be the exact 25th anniversary of The Simpson’s premiere, Savage said that one of the myths they will take on comes from 1990’s “The Crepes of Wrath” episode. Another myth comes from the “Sideshow Bob Roberts” episode.
“We set out to test Bart throwing a cherry bomb into the toilet that makes all toilets in the school act like geysers,” Savage said. “And then there’s one in which Homer’s house is about to be destroyed by a wrecking ball and Homer places his body between the wrecking ball and the house to keep it from being destroyed.”

Savage said that the idea of a Simpsons-themed episode came about in 2012, when they guest starred in an episode that spoofed their series. At first, their own producers were apprehensive to the idea, but the Simpsons producers gave them the green light.
The new season of Mythbusters premieres in January, but will sadly be without second Mythbusting team Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci . Instead, both myths in each episode will be tackled by Savage and Hyneman.
Other episodes in the new season will also look at myths from the Indiana Jones movies and Breaking Bad.
