Mariah Carey has apologized on Twitter for missing the pre-recording of her performance for the Christmas tree lighting at New York City’s Rockefeller Center on Tuesday night. She’s also now getting criticism for her live performance during Wednesday’s event.
As we previously reported, the rumor was that Carey was three hours late to the pre-taping because she was in a heated discussion with her lawyer about her divorce and custody proceedings with estranged husband Nick Cannon. By the time she showed up, everyone had already packed up to go home and she was told to leave as well.
She took to Twitter on Wednesday to apologize to fans who showed up to see the taping, saying it was “beyond my control” why she was so late.
“Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you,” she wrote.
However, critics say she struggled through her live performance. Twitter users voiced their disappointment in her vocal range, but her fans were also quick to defend her.
#MariahCarey isn't the Mariah Carey we remember. Sad but true. She has enough money to stop taking gigs & embarrassing herself.
