Cuba Gooding Jr., who some may have forgotten has an Oscar on his resume, is the latest movie actor moving to television to attempt a comeback. He’s been cast as O.J. Simpson in a new FX mini-series directed by American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy.
Gooding will play Simpson opposite AHS star Sarah Paulson, who will play prosecutor Marcia Clark in the first episode, the network announced Tuesday.
The series is based on The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin. Fox began developing the project in March 2013 and Murphy climbed aboard in October.
When Murphy joined, the project moved to FX and was put under a new banner, American Crime Story. Like AHS, ACS will be an anthology series centering on different famous American criminal cases.
Paulson recently appeared on the big screen in 12 Years A Slave and Mud. Her next film is Todd Haynes’ Carol with Cate Blanchett. She plays Bette & Dot Tattler on AHS: Freak Show.
Gooding recently appeared in Red Tails and Lee Daniels’ The Butler. He won an Oscar for his supporting part in Jerry Maguire.
