Today has turned out to be a great day for fans of John Hughes’ Ferris Bueller's Day Off. First, the movie gets preserved forever by the Library of Congress and now the movie is getting a The Goldbergs tribute, complete with a Charlie Sheen cameo.
People posted a picture from the special episode of ABC’s ‘80s-set sitcom, showing a much-older Sheen reprising his famous “Boy in the Police Station” cameo role from Ferris Bueller. However, instead of sitting across from Jennifer Grey, he shares the sofa with Hayley Orrantia, who plays Erica Goldberg.
The magazine reports that the episode will not be airing until 2015. It involves Barry (Troy Gentile) faking being sick to get out of school and recreate Ferris’ famous day off. As usual for Barry, the day is a disaster and Erica goes to the police to turn in Barry.
Ferris Bueller will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016. However, fans have much more to celebrate before then, since the Library of Congress included it as one of 25 films added to the National Film Registry today. That means that it will be preserved for as long as the Library of Congress preserves movies.
The Goldbergs airs on Wednesdays and is currently on its mid-season break. It will be back in early 2015.
