Authorities said around a dozen people were injured after a man drove his vehicle into pedestrians at five different areas in Dijon on Sunday within the span of a half an hour.
EuroNews reported that police arrested the suspect, who was shouting “God is Great” in Arabic as he drove into crowds of people walking through the city. However, law enforcement officials said that they do not believe that religious motivation played a part in the attacks, but rather mental illness.
The Associated Press noted that prosecutor Marie-Christine Tarrare said the French-born suspect, who is the son of North African immigrants, has been hospitalized for psychiatric issues more than 150 times since 2001.
French media outlets have said that of those injured two were seriously hurt and as of Monday, eight people remain hospitalized.
This latest attack comes after an incident on Saturday when a man, also shouting “God is Great,” attacked police officers with a knife. That suspect was shot and killed.
