Anderson Cooper undergoes emergency surgery to treat appendicitis

Anderson Cooper took to Twitter to let fans know why John Berman suddenly filled in for him on CNN’s AC360 on Monday night – he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery on Sunday.

Cooper tweeted that he’ll be back to work on Tuesday despite undergoing surgery to treat appendicitis just a day earlier.

“I'll be back on air tomorrow. Had an appendicitis and had to have sudden surgery last night,” he wrote on Monday night.

On Tuesday, he told TheWrap, “I am very thankful for the efforts of my doctor and the doctors and nurses at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.”

Cooper has been in Ferguson, Missouri covering the protests there, and thought it was food poisoning when he experienced stomach pains during a trip to France for Thanksgiving.

After telling his doctor his symptoms over the phone, he was diagnosed and rushed to the hospital as soon as he landed back home in New York.
