Authorities announced on Wednesday that there was an accident reported at a power plant in southeast Ukraine recently.
Reuters noted that Ukraine's Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn confirmed that there had been an accident at the Zaporozhskaya plant and disclosed that it occurred last Friday.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk asked the Energy Minister to hold a news conference regarding the situation.
Demchyshyn said that the accident did not pose a threat to the public.
"There is no threat ... there are no problems with the reactors," he said, adding that the plant would resume normal operations this week.
RT reported that the accident was minor and affected the power output system and caused a reactor to become switched off and put to maintenance.
"Its power output is not being used. I think that the problem will be resolved by Friday," said Demchyshyn.
After the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 in what was then Soviet Ukraine, countries are required to alert the International Atomic Energy Agency of nuclear accidents.
So far, the IAEA has not yet commented on the news of this incident.
