McDonald’s is about to bring back the McRib. However, to avoid the same social media disaster from last year, the fast food giant is hoping that a few YouTube videos will be enough to answer questions about the sandwich.
Back in November 2013, a Reddit user famously posted an image of what frozen McRib meat looks like and it wasn’t pretty. The image became a viral sensation and McDonald’s had to rush to fix the situation, insisting that it is made with 100 percent real meat.
To make sure that media disaster doesn’t repeat itself, McDonald’s has posted three videos on YouTube to explain the history of the McRib and how it is made. According to USA Today, the videos were posted just before the sandwich hits 75 percent of McDonald’s locations nationwide.
One video is the latest in a series with former Mythbusters star Grant Imahara that explains the process of making the sandwich. His co-star is someone who tweeted the infamous Reddit photo, but he’s swayed to McDonald’s side by the time the five-minute clip is over.
The two other videos explain why it is a seasonal menu item, while another explains how the chain came up with the item.
The videos are part of the larger “Our Food. Your Questions” campaign, which is meant to explain to more people how McDonald’s food is made. Videos explaining french fries and Chicken McNuggets are in the works.
