Jay Leno is returning to The Tonight Show, but not to take back the reins from Jimmy Fallon. No, Leno will be making an appearance on the late night talk show as a guest this time.
NBC announced the slate of guests for this week on Monday and confirmed that the Friday episode will feature Leno. Fallon will also sit down with Elementary star Lucy Liu and voice actor Kevin Delaney.
The appearance will be early promotion for Leno’s latest venture within the NBCUniversal family. Last month, Leno confirmed that he will be hosting a primetime series on CNBC called Jay Leno’s Garage. It is expected to debut in 2015.
After Leno left the Tonight Show earlier this year, several networks were after his services, but he has oddly decided to remain with NBC. Over the summer, he also appeared on Last Comic Standing.
Other guests appearing on the Tonight Show this week include Bette Midler on Wednesday; and Matthew McConaughey on Thursday to promote Interstellar. Tonight’s episode will feature Today Show anchors Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer.
