Calvin Klein catches heat for plus size model Myla Dalbesio, who's a healthy size 10

Calvin Klein has decided to feature a plus-size model, Myla Dalbesio, in their new "Perfectly Fit" underwear campaign, however, the term ‘plus-size’ as it applies to the size 10 Dalbesio isn’t going over too well.

In the world of high fashion, when a size 0 is the norm, Dalbesio’s size would technically categorize her as plus-size but in regular terms, she’s the average size of a U.S. woman.

In a recent interview with Elle, she called herself a “bigger girl.”

“It’s kind of confusing because I’m a bigger girl,” Dalbesio says. “I’m not the biggest girl on the market but I’m definitely bigger than all the girls [Calvin Klein] has ever worked with, so that is really intimidating.”

She also defended Calvin Klein for never differentiating herself from the rest of the models. Models Lara Stone and Jourdan Dunn are also featured in the campaign, E! Online reports.

“It’s not like [Calvin Klein] released this campaign and were like ‘Whoa, look, there’s this plus size girl in our campaign,’” she said. “They released me in this campaign with everyone else; there’s no distinction. It’s not a separate section for plus size girls.”

As a result of some backlash in calling Dalbesio plus-size, the company has released a statement saying that they created their new ad campaign to be “inclusive” of all sizes.

Their statement reads that the Perfectly Fit campaign was “created to celebrate and cater to the needs of different women, and these images are intended to communicate that our new line is more inclusive and available in several silhouettes in an extensive range of sizes.”

As for Dalbesio, she’s happy she’s found a happy medium in the fashion industry after almost a decade as a model. She refers to herself as “neither plus, nor straight size.”
