Karl Stefanovic, a co-host of Today Show in Australia, has revealed that he wore the same suit on air for almost a year straight and no one noticed.
Stefanovic revealed his motives behind this were to prove that his female colleagues were being subjected to sexism, particularly Lisa Wilkinson, who often gets slammed in local press because of her outfit choices.
“No one has noticed; no one gives a sh-t. But women, they wear the wrong colour and they get pulled up,” he told Fairfax Media. “They say the wrong thing and there's thousands of tweets written about them.”
He added, “Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear."
Stefanovic’s confession went viral over the weekend and he made it clear that the point he wanted to make with this experiment was to show that women get judged harshly for how they look while men get off easy.
Today.com reports a viewer once sent Wilkinson a letter that read, “Who the heck is Lisa's stylist? Whoever it is has Lisa in some shocking clothes. Today's outfit is particularly jarring and awful. Just my 2 cents worth. Get Some Style.''
“I'm judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humour – on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they're wearing or how their hair is ... that's [what I wanted to test],” he said.
