At least 30 people were killed after two female suicide bombers blew themselves up at a Nigerian market on Tuesday.
The Associated Press reported that two teenage bombers walked into the crowded market in the city of Maiduguri and detonated explosives.
Borno state coordinator of the Civilian Joint Task Force Abba Aji Kalli said that both woman entered the market dressed in full Islamic garb. The first bomber detonated explosives killing about three people before the second teen blew herself up killing dozens more, he explained.
Turkish News Agency Anadolu Ajansi noted that another bombing near the same market occurred last July. In that blast, 21 people were killed.
Although responsibility for the latest attacks have not yet been claimed, many suspect that the extremist rebel group Boko Haram is behind it. The group is the same that abducted hundreds of girls from a government secondary school back in April.
The militant group’s name means “western” or “non-Islamic” education is sinful.
