Angelina Jolie has been on the world stage for decades, fighting for her beloved humanitarian causes. But she’s never openly expressed any interest in politics of public service until now.
In her “Woman of the Year” interview for Vanity Fair, the Oscar winning actress/director said that she might try being an elected politician. She would also be open to being appointed to a position.
“When you work as a humanitarian, you are conscious that politics have to be considered,” the Maleficent star told the magazine. “Because if you really want to make an extreme change, then you have a responsibility.”
However, Jolie then seems to back off, suggesting that her current role as international celebrity already helps make a difference.
Still, Vanity Fair asked her directly if she would take a position in politics or public service. “I am open,” Jolie replied.
Jolie has already learned the difficulties of diplomacy as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, focusing on helping refugees. Last year, she pleaded with the UN to fight sexual violence in war-torn regions of the world. She also received the honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work.
Also in her Vanity Fair interview, Jolie admitted that it “does feel different” to be married to Brad Pitt. “It feels nice to be husband and wife,” she added.
The new issue of Vanity Fair is out on Nov. 11.
