The networks sure are optimistic about their new product this season. ABC is buzzing about Black-ish and How To Get Away With Murder and now CBS is excited about its four new dramas. In fact, the eye network has given full season orders to all four.
There was no question that NCIS: New Orleans would get a full season. NCIS: NOLA has taken full advantage of having the most-watched scripted show on TV, the original NCIS, as a lead in. The second NCIS spinoff is the top-rated new show of the season, averaging 18.6 million viewers and a 2.8 18-49 rating. Its cast is headlined by Scott Bakula.
Surprisingly, Scorpion and Stalker have both been picked up for full seasons. Scorpion is doing well, averaging a 15.17 million viewers and a 3.6 18-49 rating on Mondays. Like NCIS: NOLA, it has a great lead-in. The Big Bang Theory precedes the show, although this week, The Millers moves into the slot before it.
Stalker earned a lukewarm reception from critics, but averages 9.49 million viewers and a 2.1 18-49 rating. That’s low for CBS, but a new show on any other network would beg for numbers like that.
Lastly, the Sunday drama Madam Secretary, starring Tea Leoni, also got a full season. The show averages 13.53 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating following 60 Minutes.
“These four shows have had an immediate impact on our schedule by improving nights, winning time periods and adding more hours of success across our primetime line up," Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment, said in a statement.
