You go to McDonald’s for breakfast, you go for lunch and for dinner. But have you ever considered brunch, specifically a McBrunch?
The fast food chain reportedly filed to trademark the phrase “McBrunch” in July. The move was first reported by Burger Business, which did receive a statement confirming the move from McDonald’s.
“We routinely file intent to use trademark applications as a regular course of business,” the company said. “We can’t share details at this time as to how the trademarks may or may not be used.”
This move comes as fast food chains revived the breakfast battle in recent months, with Dunkin Donuts, Burger King and Taco Bell all launching new items recently. Just last month, Chick-fil-a announced its own new menu, which it is testing in select markets at the moment.
Another reason for potential “McBrunch” items is lower sales for McDonald’s. As Fox News notes, the company saw sales decline 2.8 percent in August, far worse than the 2 percent decline analysts predicted.
McDonald’s previously applied for the “McBrunch” trademark in 2001, but abandoned the idea.
