If Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka wanted to keep their wedding ceremony a secret, they made the wrong move by inviting talk show host Kelly Ripa. The Live! With Kelly and Michael host spilled some details about the ceremony, which took place in Italy this past weekend.
Despite flying to Italy and back to New York, Ripa still appeared on Live!’s Monday episode. Ripa was excited to announce to the audience that Harris - who frequently co-hosted the show before Michael Strahan got the job full-time - tied the knot with his longtime boyfriend Burtka.
“I'm probably not even supposed to talk about it,” Ripa joked, notes Us Weekly. However, she did say that Harris gave her the greenlight to give some details.
“It was a beautiful family affair in Perugia, Italy. They rented a castle — or I think they rented it. I hope we didn't break into a castle and just stayed there,” Ripa recalled, confirming that Elton John did perform. The food was also “amazing” and there were magic tricks performed.
“Their wedding vows were so beautiful,” she added.
Burtka and Harris’ three-year-old twins did take part, with Harper as the flower girl and Gideon as the ring bearer. (No, there was no ring bear, if any How I Met Your Mother fans are wondering.)
As we previously reported, a rep for the couple did confirm that they got married, although offered no further details. Harris tweeted a picture of the ceremony, adding, “Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband.’”
