A 19-year-old in Colorado has plead guilty to helping the terrorist organization ISIS.
TheDenverChannel.com reported that Shannon Conley appeared in court on Wednesday and plead guilty to a conspiracy charge of providing material support to a foreign terrorist group.
The Associated Press noted that Conley, a Muslim convert, was arrested in April at the Denver International airport. She had a one-way ticket, which her father found, that was destined for Turkey. She was hoping to get into Syria and marry a man she had met online.
Authorities said that they are still investigating the identity of the suitor she allegedly communicated with via Skype.
Court documents show that federal agents first became aware of her interest in extremism in 2013.
Her parents were asked to intervene and discuss their daughter’s radical views with her, however, their talks had no avail.
ISIS, which stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is a Sunni jihadist group that aspires to bring many Muslim-inhabited regions under its political control.
For her part in aiding the group, Conley could face hefty fines and up to five years in prison.
