Remaining hostages rescued in Illinois standoff, suspects in custody

Authorities have said that the remaining hostages at a residence in Harvey, Illinois have been rescued and the suspects have been taken into custody.

CNN reported that on Wednesday, law enforcement officials ended a nearly 20-hour long hostage situation at the suburban Chicago home and rescued four people, including two children, held inside.

"We're very happy that there's been a peaceful resolution. No shots were fired," said Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, noting that no one was hurt during the rescue operation.

The standoff started at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday when police responded to a break in at the home. Negotiators were brought in to keep in contact with the suspects and the SWAT team broke down the door around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CBS Chicago noted that the two adult female hostages aged 37 and 43 and the two young girls, ages 6 and 12, did not appear to be injured. All, however, were of course, visibly shaken and were transported to a local hospital to be checked out.

Over 200 officers, from several different agencies, were involved in the successful rescue of the hostages and apprehension of the two suspects.
