Noah knocks Jacob off top spot on 2013 list of most popular baby names, Sophia still No. 1 for girls

Noah was popular at the box office earlier this year and was also a popular name for baby boys born in 2013. The Social Security Administration released its annual list of popular baby names today and Noah came out on top for boys. However, Sophia is still the most popular name for girls in the U.S.

Not only did Noah manage to beat Jacob, but so did Liam. Jacob slid all the way to No. 3 on the list. Last year, Noah came in at No. 3, with Liam at No. 6.

We speculate that movies may have had something to do with it. Paramount’s Noah was set for release and possibly all the Biblical stories Hollywood has been producing lately put the name back in America’s mind. Babies named Liam will also share their name with actor Liam Neeson, who has scored hits with Taken and Non-Stop recently.

For girls, the name Sophia has continued to reign supreme. Emma also came in at No. 2 again, so Emma Stone is still an influence. Olivia is also at No. 3, which could mean that their parents are fans of Olivia Wilde.

Here are the full Top 10 lists:
Boys: Noah, Liam, Jacob, Mason, William, Ethan, Michael Alexander, Jayden, Daniel
Girls: Sophia, Emma, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Emily, Abigail, Madison, Elizabeth
