Kim Kardashian posted an open and honest blog post about her fears for her daughter, North West, who is biracial, living in a world where racism is “still alive.”
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who is Armenian, and West, who is African American, welcomed North 11 months ago.
She started off the post, explaining how much she’s changed since she became a mother, writing she “brings new meaning” to life and admitted, “What once seemed so important, now feels insignificant.”
Kardashian noted how passionate her fiancé is about the topic of discrimination and racism, but said she felt it was “easier for me to believe it was someone else’s battle.”
“But recently, I've read and personally experienced some incidents that have sickened me and made me take notice. I realize that racism and discrimination are still alive, and just as hateful and deadly as they ever have been,” she continued.
Kardashian also wrote she feels “responsibility” as someone with a platform to speak out on behalf of those who don’t have a voice.
“I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don't have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation,” she wrote.
Although there were rumors Kardashian and West were already married, it seems they will be tying the knot sometime this month.
