A Virginia man must pay over $5,000 in damages for peeing into his co-worker’s coffee pot.
According to the New York Daily News, James Carroll Butler was ordered to pay the amount for the gross antic against his former co-worker Michael Utz.
Butler collected his urine from the toilet, poured it into the coffee pot and anticipated his co-worker drinking it. However, Utz noticed a foul odor coming from the beverage and decided otherwise.
Butler was busted after Utz consulted with his supervisor about the stench and the contents of the pot were sent to a lab to be tested. The results concluded that the coffee contained urine and fecal matter.
In court, Butler admitted to and apologized for his behavior.
The Associated Press noted the jury awarded Utz $5,000 in punitive damages and $1 in compensatory damages.
The 53-year-old Butler has not worked for the same company as the co-worker he tried duping since 2009 when the incident occurred.
