The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 with 239 passengers has now entered its fifth day. The flight went missing on Saturday, between Malaysia and Vietnam, on its way to Beijing. What happened is still a complete mystery, as the last recorded words from one of the pilots did not make it sound as if there was any danger.
When air traffic control told the pilot that, “We have to hand you over to Ho Chi Minh City,” the pilot responded simply, “All right, good night.” The news was revealed during a briefing for the Chinese press with Malaysian authorities. It was then relayed to ABC News.
After that response, the pilots never got in touch with Ho Chi Minh City. There’s still no clue that can answer what happened. One thing the investigators have figured out is that the plane did go off course, reports NBC News.
There are 42 ships and 39 aircraft searching the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca, Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman confirmed. That doesn’t really narrow the field, as the search zone is still 35,000 square miles.
“We will never give up hope,” Malaysia's Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said today.
Malaysia’s Sun Daily did report that Vietnam has put a temporary stop to its search efforts because of conflicting information. "We are temporarily suspending search and rescue activities, although there will still be a few planes going out," Vietnam deputy transport minister Pham Quy Tieu told a local paper.
