Bill Murray gave a lovely shout-out to Harold Ramis, the late comedian who he made so many movies with. While Ramis was added to the Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment, Murray provided the best moment of the night with his short tribute.
Murray was onstage to present the award for Best Cinematography with American Hustle nominee Amy Adams. The two shared some funny banter before announcing the nominees in the category. Before they could open the envelope though, Murray deviated from the script.
“We forgot one,” he said. “And Harold Ramis for Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.”
The moment got a round of applause. Then, Murray opened the envelope to announce that Gravity’s Emmanuel Lubezki won the award.
Ramis died on Feb. 24 at the age of 69. He and Murray made several films together, including the three Murray listed last night. Murray previously issued a statement shortly after Ramis’ death.
“He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him,” Murray said last week.
The “In Memoriam” segment was emotional and ended with Philip Seymour Hoffman being shown on the screen. Bette Midler then performed “Wind Beneath My Wings.” The Academy also paid tribute to Sarah Jones, the production assistant who was killed during an accident in Georgia while making Midnight Rider on Feb. 20.
