Starz to preview 'Black Sails' for free a week ahead of premiere

To boost interest in its upcoming pirate drama Black Sails, Starz will offer the pilot for free online on a variety of sites starting on Jan. 18, a week ahead of the official premiere date.

According to Variety, Black Sails will be available on Starz's own VOD, website and YouTube channel. With those who use Amazon Instant Video, iTunes and many more, the show will also be available. Several cable and satellite providers will also be involved in offering options for viewers to watch.

The subscription network is also partnering up with the Machinima on YouTube for the first time in an effort to make the first episode as widely available as possible. Starz and Machinima were already using the multichannel YouTube network to show trailers and other goodies to draw the younger, male-skewing audience that Machinima caters towards.

Black Sails is just one of many original shows that Starz has been developing as it follows in the footsteps of HBO and Showtime in creating original content.

Other shows that will premiere soon or this year on the network include Outlander, Power, Flesh And Bone, WonderWorld and the second season of Da Vinci's Demons.
