Members of the Satanic Temple, that has caught the attention of many, have unveiled the design of the statue of Satan that they want to display in the Capitol Building in Oklahoma.
The seven foot tall Satan will appear as a goat headed, horned figure that has wings and will be seated on a throne in the middle of a few smiling children, according to The Washington Times.
“The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma and beyond,” said Lucien Greaves, spokesman for the group. The group that Greaves speaks for is based in New York, however, they do not agree that the Ten Commandments are permitted in the building, but there is nothing to present Satanist beliefs.
According to The Associated Press, other requests similar to this have been seen throughout the US for monuments dedicated to Buddha, Hindu beliefs and even the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
On the group’s website it says, "Satan stands as the ultimate icon for the selfless revolt against tyranny, free & rational inquiry, and the responsible pursuit of happiness.” Greaves recognizes that the group is pushing to have the monument built in order to highlight hypocrisy of OK’s government who claims tolerance of other religions.
The group has raised half of the $20,000 needed to build the monument. “We plan on moving forward in one way or another,” Greaves said.
