Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Caine have signed on to star in Harry and the Butler, which will be directed by George C. Wolfe.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news as the American Film Market opens on Wednesday. Radiant Films will look for foreign buyers during AFM.
Spirit Films' Philippe River and Playground Entertainment's Colin Callender are coming on-board to produce the dramedy. Damian F. Slattery penned the script for the film. Wolfe is looking at a spring 2014 date to begin shooting the film on location.
Harry and the Butler is about a mechanic and jazz musician who inherits a lot of money. He then gets drunk and hires an down-on-his-luck British butler. The movie has been gestating for quite some time and is roughly based off the 1962 Danish film Harry og Kammertjeneren. Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins were attached to the project at one time.
According to Digital Spy, Rivier and Callender commented on their excitement for the project. "We are very proud to bring together these two great movie icons, Sam Jackson and Michael Caine, under the direction of the great George C Wolfe."
They added, "Harry and the Butler follows in the honourable tradition of so many classic films in which a chance encounter between two disparate characters transforms them forever."
