Comedian Patton Oswalt has been selected to host the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, Calif. early next year.
The awards ceremony will be held on March 1 and air the same evening on IFC, according to Variety. On Nov. 26, nominations will be announced.
"Patton has been a long supporter of our organization, he has participated in several Film Independent Live Reads at LACMA and is also a card-holding member of the organization," Film Independent President Josh Welsh said. "I can't wait to see what he has in store for us at the Awards show in March."
The 29th annual awards ceremony celebrates independent films and has been known to overlap with the Oscars in nominations, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Jennifer Caserta, IFC president and general manager, said, "Patton's quick wit and ridiculously funny take on society and pop culture is perfect for IFC and perfect for this event. We are thrilled our viewers will be able to enjoy this year's show with this incredible talent and distinctive voice at the helm."
Previous Spirit Awards hosts include Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman and Andy Samberg. Oswalt will next appear in Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
