Reality star NeNe Leakes told her fans on her website today that she is lucky to be alive after she was diagnosed with blood clots in her lung. She denied rumors that she had a heart attack and is already home with her family.
Leakes wrote that last week, she started feeling out of breath. She was concerned and rushed to the hospital, where her doctors performed a series of tests. They told her that the blood clots in her lung were the result of her constant traveling.
“I’m thankful to be alive as the doctor advised me that most people don’t recognize the symptoms of blood clots and don’t go to the doctor and that’s when the big problems start happening,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star wrote.
She noted that she had a “wonderful experience with the doctors and nurses who took care of me.”
Leakes, 47, is home with her husband and shared a photo of a special visitor in her hospital bed. People notes this was Bri'asia, her 17-month-old granddaughter.
Leakes appeared on Glee as Roz Washington and also starred on Ryan Murphy’s short-lived NBC series The New Normal. She currently appears on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta and her wedding was covered in I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding.
