Thor: The Dark Work’s early success shows why Hollywood is slowly turning early Thursday night screenings into the norm. The latest film from Disney and Marvel opened to a good $7.1 million just from Thursday screenings.
TheWrap reports that The Dark World more than doubled what 2011’s Thor made during early openings. That film’s Thursday previews grossed $3.2 million. It also topped Captain America: The First Avenger’s $4 million from previews.
However, it was still far behind the $15.6 million Iron Man 3 previews grossed in May or the $18.7 million launch The Avengers had.
Meanwhile, The Dark World, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor again, has continued to roll over the competition overseas. Deadline reports that the film has reached $152.8 million in foreign markets and it hasn’t even been out for a full week.
After it opens in China and Latin America on Friday, it will be out in 92 percent of the world. Audiences in Argentina, Italy and Japan will have to wait a little longer, though.
The Dark World is expected to open at the top of the box office easily, since it has little competition this weekend. The film is earning decent reviews and you can check out ours here.
