A montage of bloopers from the first Star Wars film has finally made it online for fans to see and it is hilarious.
The footage was originally shown at the San Diego Comic Con by J.W. Rinzler, who has been going through the Lucasfilm archives to chronicle the making of the original trilogy. According to Wired, the footage was posted online on Sunday by a user on Reddit. In just over a day, the video has been seen by nearly 88,000 people on YouTube and we can only hope that Lucasfilm allows it to live online.
The two-minute, 35-second video includes some silent footage, mixed with scenes that have audio tracks. In the first scene, a Rebel trooper’s helmet falls off when he goes to kneel and in another, two Cantina aliens are seen having an argument. Legendary British actors Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness are seen flubbing their lines, while another has Harrison Ford eating his microphone.
One of the cooler images is an incomplete shot of an X-Wing blowing up. The reel closes with an alternate version of the Death Star explosion (right after Mark Hamill tries to figure out how to pronounce “Super Nova”).
Who knows if this would ever get released by Lucasfilm. They did release blooper reels for the prequels as easter eggs on the DVDs, but those didn’t make it to the Blu-ray release (and are not as fun as these ones... the Original Trilogy’s bloopers are even better that the prequels).
