Minnesota Dairy Queen worker earns praise for refusing to serve woman who took $20 from blind man

A Hopkins, Minnesota Dairy Queen employee is being praised around the country for his good deed earlier this month. He refused to serve a woman who picked up a $20 bill that his previous customer dropped. That customer was a visually impaired man who accidentally dropped the bill when he paid for his sundae.

On Sept. 10, Joey Prusak, who has worked at the Dairy Queen for five years, served a customer who gave his order and dropped some money as he was pulling out the cash to pay. “Right then and there I knew when he dropped that $20 bill, game's over, he's not going to know,” Prusak told NBC affiliate KARE-11. “He just kept walking and that's when the lady picked it up and I thought, she's going to give it back 'cause she picked it up so quickly.”

At first, Prusak was speechless when he saw the woman put the $20 in her purse. “I was kind of in shock,” he told The New York Daily News. “I was appalled by the situation.”

But then, he made a decision. “I said, ma'am I'm not going to serve someone as disrespectful as you, so you can either return the $20 bill and I'll serve you, or you can leave,” he told KARE. “And she goes well it's my $20 dollar bill, and I go, we'll then you can leave.”

The woman decided to leave, but not without a few choice words. So, Prusak, 19, decided to sit with the customer and gave him a $20 bill out of his own wallet.

Customers were impressed by his actions and one even wrote an email to the store. A co-worker then posted the email on Facebook and it landed on Reddit. “People started sharing it, pretty soon it's on Reddit, it's one of the top things on Reddit and all of a sudden it's gone viral,” he said.

“I was in shock by the generosity that your employee had,” the note reads. “Taking his own money out of his own wallet to give to the customer because some other lady decided to steal something that wasn't hers...I would proudly like to say that Joey has forever sealed my fate as a lifelong customer of the Main street Dairy Queen.”
