Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, who became a household name from the MTV show Jersey Shore, is opening up about his addiction to prescription pills.
The reality star revealed the exact moment that he knew he needed to get help for his addiction. He went to rehab last year after an epiphany in Australia.
He said he started taking painkillers after an injury he obtained on Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and he knew he had a problem in February 2012.
"All I had to do was get dressed for a family function and I couldn't do that," he told the AP, E! Online reports. “The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn't even get out of bed," he recalled. Then, he wondered, "'If I can't do that, how am I going to continue?'"
He went to Cirque Lodge in Utah right after that, and was thrust into filming the final season of Jersey Shore when he got out.
“A little part of me was like, `How am I gonna get through this?' but if you watched, I didn't have one drink," he explained.
ABC News notes Sorrentino also admitted looking back, he was suffering from a “disease.”
"The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself but to get to recovery is something special,” he said, adding, “There is hope out there and you can get help."
