Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably heard about the annual Video Music Awards premiered on MTV Sunday, and how the performers, particularly Miley Cyrus, brought the sexy.
And the Parents Television Council isn’t happy about it.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the watchdog group slammed the network for “marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars.”
They’re referring to Cyrus and her raunchy performance with Robin Thicke, in which the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana grinded and twerked across the stage, complete with sexy teddy bear unitard and her signature tongue wagging.
Cyrus and the twerk seen ‘round the world caused an uproar at the PTA.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the PTA accused the performance of having “simply substituted talent with sex.”
The PTA isn’t just anti-twerking – they weren’t happy with Lady Gaga, either.
Gaga opened the show with her latest hit, “Applause,” but she did so in a handful of skimpy, wacky outfits, the last of which was a seashell bra and G-string.
“How is it appropriate for children to watch Lady Gaga strip down to a bikini in the opening act?" they asked.
According to THR, the PTA’s solution is the Television Consumer Freedom Act, which they claimed “will give parents and consumers a real solution for future MTV VMA programs -- the ability to choose and pay for cable networks that they want vs. having to pay for networks they don't want.”
